‘Priceless’ treasure buried in 1934 discovered during home renovations

A New Jersey man has spoken of his delight at discovering buried treasure on his property while renovating his home, according to reports.

Richard Gilson found buried treasure from the 1930s after he began digging a hole as part of his renovations Friday at his home in Wildwood, according to a report from 3CBS Philly.

Speaking to 3CBS Philly, Gilson said he had been renovating his home for the past two years when he came across the buried treasure in the form of rolled up $10 and $20 bills all bearing the same date, 1934.

“Someone went under there with a little shovel and buried that thing under there,” Gilson said.

“They were hiding that money from someone for something. You’d be surprised. You think you’re digging somewhere no one’s been and you find something that was there a long time ago.”

Gilson said he first thought he was digging roots before realizing what he had stumbled upon.

The bills amount to $1,000, which Gilson said in 1934 was worth almost $20,000

“Each of these invoices bore the same date,” he continued.

“Either someone during the Depression closed their bank account because they didn’t trust it and decided to bury it under the house, or someone stole it and tried to hide it and their last thought before he died ‘oh that money, I forgot about that.'”

“I think history is priceless, I don’t know if I will ever see financial gain but I believe history is priceless.”

Neighbors told 3CBS Philly there are stories that have been passed down through generations of buried treasure, but so far there has been no evidence of this.

“It’s an island, man. Who knows what kind of treasure is hidden here,” said one resident.

A somewhat similar incident happened in June in Wilmington, Delaware, according to a Reddit post, except what was uncovered was far from treasure.

A man has come across a hilarious and wild letter from the 1980s in an old house he is renovating, in which someone has given a woman called Christy a piece of his mind.

Redditor u/BrotherOfTheLeafMTL shared the weathered piece of paper on Reddit’s Funny forum on June 14.

The letter dates back to April 14, 1987 and details a dramatic and juicy falling out between two people.

“Christy, thank you so much, what a true friend you are, I trusted you and all. I never touched anything from you,” the letter read.

“Well here’s your fucking fucking shorts you bought me, I don’t want them, all I want is the $50.00 I gave you to go to Florida since I have to pay you back thank you and Diane.

“I will never be able to trust you guys – – – – again.

“You don’t want me to be with Rob but you’re not going to stop me because you don’t know Rob, you’re not giving him a chance so F*** YOU! And f*** off! You’re a old friend.”

Amid claims the letter was a fake, u/BrotherOfTheLeafMTL wrote, “It’s legit. We found TONS of old paper from the 70s and 80s.

“The whole house hadn’t been updated at all, and only one owner of the house died. You’d be surprised what we find sometimes.”
