Sentinel’s editorial board was right last week when it suggested that Pogonip and the Homeless Garden project should “take the lead” and move forward with the project’s relocation plans as originally planned. Pogonip’s management plan provides for the green space to be protected in perpetuity. Indeed, this strip of open space has become popular with many of the city’s residents, including me. Just because it takes extra effort and cost to remedy the plot agreed long ago for the HGP doesn’t mean we have to change the rules to make it easier to farm elsewhere in Pogonip, including the main meadow or somewhere else.
Let’s do the hard work to allow the original proposal to move forward and keep the rest of Pogonip as an open space for all Santa Cruzans as originally planned.

The Sentinel welcomes your letters to the editor. Letters should be short, no more than 150 words. We do not accept anonymous letters. Letter writers should include their full name as well as a street address and telephone number. We do not publish these details in the log, but we need this information for verification purposes. Sometimes we reject letters simply because we have received many on the same subject. Submit your letters online at www.santacruzsentinel.com/submit-letters.
